[The inspiration for creating large-print boldface books]
My mother was hard of hearing and didn't watch TV, but she loved reading, had a sharp mind, and was far from dementia.
But one day, she was no longer able to read the fine Ming font, and she stopped reading and spent her days staring blankly.
Worried about developing dementia, she tried magnifying glasses and glasses, but they didn't work, and she refused to read large-print books with fine print.
As a test, I published a large-print boldface book on Kindle and showed it to her.
She was delighted, saying, "I can read this without glasses!"
She read it all in one day and said, "Please continue reading the next one." (laughs)
My mother, who has read all of the library's Gothic books, is now eagerly awaiting my large-print books, which are bold and easy to read, from Amazon.
She also says that the ease of reading makes them ideal for read-alouds.
I would also encourage people who have never read a novel to try it and experience the joy of plowing through a thick book.
