Introduced in 1985 as Tamiya's first shaft 4WD racing buggy. It quickly captivated many fans with its high performance and innovative mechanical features. The chassis has a three-part structure consisting of front and rear gearboxes and a center monocoque. High maintainability is attractive. The suspension is a double wishbone with monoshock oil dampers and stabilizers front and rear. In particular, the rear is a progressive type that uses a connecting plate and push rod.
The sealed front and rear gearbox contained a thrust ball bearing and a differential gear. Because it used many parts exclusive to the Hot Shot, it was a machine that was out of reach for younger fans, but this actually aroused their admiration for it. The Hotshot was an epoch-making model that established the 4WD racing buggy genre. Hot Shot (2007) is a reprint version based on the design concept of not changing the form or structure as much as possible, and updating only the parts that do not fit the current situation or are difficult to assemble.
The main mechanisms, such as shaft drive 4WD and front and rear double wishbone suspension equipped with adjustable monoshock dampers, remain the same, but the front and rear drive shafts and propeller shafts have been changed to highly reliable dogbone types. The oil damper is also of the currently mainstream diaphragm type.
