Silky smooth and detailed sound
Ortofon's Concorde is characterized by its shape resembling a supersonic passenger aircraft. Its unique shape is characterized by the headshell and cartridge body being integrated into one, tapering toward the stylus tip. The reason this unique cartridge was commercialized stems from a certain philosophy that was strongly pursued by cartridge manufacturers at the time of its creation in 1979.
Most cartridges of the time were developed with low mass (light weight) and high compliance (easy stylus movement) as their top priorities, and both the cartridge and tonearm were required to be even more sensitive than those typically found today. When this ideal was pushed to its limits, the ideal shape emerged: this one-piece shell body. This body not only realized the ideals of the time, but also inherited the concept of "simplicity" inherited from the SPU series. There was no need to attach the cartridge to a headshell, adjust its position, or wire leads. Simply attach it to the shell connector of a universal tonearm, adjust the zero balance and stylus pressure, and you're ready to go. Furthermore, the length from the stylus to the rear end of the headshell was 52 mm, the same as the SPU. It could truly be said to be a pioneer of modern universal design.
The original Concorde series, which first embodied this concept, featured an astonishingly compact magnetic circuit and high-performance damping mechanism for a contemporary MC cartridge. Its diverse lineup included the MC200 and its sibling, the MC100, which dominated the market as high-performance models and laid the technological foundation for Ortofon's modern high-end MC cartridges. It also included the VMS-type Concorde 30, 20, 10, and STD, which were born as low-mass high-compliance models, and the pinnacle of this trend, the SME 30H, with its integrated arm pipe. The Concorde series enjoyed a loyal following thanks to its compatibility with high-sensitivity tonearms, its uncolored, "accurate" sound, and its distinctive character unmatched by other cartridges. Even after its temporary disappearance from the hi-fi cartridge lineup, there was constant demand for its return as a regular model. In response, we embarked on the development of a new-generation hi-fi Concorde that would surpass even the marvels of the past century. We have poured all of our advanced modern technology and our own more sophisticated damper technology into this product.
By incorporating these elements, we have succeeded in redefining what "precise" sound means for the 21st century.
If the signal picked up by the cartridge is accurate, the music will emerge naturally, just as the player imagines it. Concorde plays only "Music." This philosophy has remained unchanged for 45 years since the original model was released.
*The Concorde Music series uses MM cartridges, so users can replace the stylus (needle unit) attached to the body themselves. The cartridges in this series are also compatible, with the Red, Blue, Bronze, Black, and Black LVB 250 models all sharing the same cartridge body.
