An early afternoon drowning in lo-fi sounds

This is the fourth solo album produced by SSW = Leonardo Marquez of Minas, Brazil, with the theme of nostalgia. Influenced by Elliot Smith, etc., it features a unique sound that mixes and sublimates Brazilian music, which is its own roots, into songs based on US indie folk, etc., and the sweet melodies that make use of vintage equipment such as Optigan and Melotron are so comfortable. In this work, homages to Shuggie Otis's 3rd album “Inspiration Information” are scattered, not to mention jackets, a production style centered around multiple recordings and songs with a unique sense of floating. A memory and nostalgia ensemble that combines lo-fi sounds made with vintage equipment and evergreen melodies. Brazilian Minas singer-songwriter/producer Leonardo Marquez has released his long-awaited new work “Flea Market Music”!

Regarding this film, Leonardo said, “I thought (even before production) this record would be like a flea market. It's a nostalgic ensemble, and it's a collage-like record of memories, dreams, ideas, sounds, smells, words, emotions, places, and times.” Broken toys, custom-made shirts with embroidered initials, sunburned record collections, etc. At the flea market, which can be said to be a gathering place for small and personal dramas, he probably found a gaze familiar with his own music. Leonardo continued, “To accept anxiety, starting with old age, and on the other hand, to enjoy life. It's also that kind of record that makes you travel to places and times you've never seen that you've been dreaming about for many years.”

In terms of sound, the “personal yet unique sound space” that I have been exploring for many years has been expressed more than ever before. The slumber lo-fi sound recorded at her studio “Ilha do Corvo” becomes even more addictive, leading the listener to a pleasant journey of nostalgia.

The jacket that seems to be a homage to Shuggie Otis's “Inspiration Information” is also a perfect match for this music. It's a long-awaited new album, and it's one that can be said to be the greatest masterpiece of my career.
