Product introduction
A work dedicated to the great jazz violinist Stephen Grappelli!
A jazz album truly unique to France, inheriting the essence of Django Reinhardt's jazz lineage!
A full shot of Mathilde Febrel, a violinist who is active as a session musician with eight sides and six arms.
“My goal this time was to get as close as possible to the beautiful, accurate tone that is the true essence of Stephen.”
── Mathilde Febrel
Mathilde Febrel gave a wonderful performance at the 2022 concert of chanson singer Claire Hergière in Japan.
This is Mathilde's first lead album and is dedicated to Stéphane Grappelli, a great violinist born in France.
Mathilde's mentors are jazz violinist Didier Lockwood and Pierre Blanchard. The two mentors, like Mathilde, went from classical music to jazz, and became students of Stephen Grappelli. This is why Mathilde is said to be a violinist directly related to Stephen Grappelli.
When it came to making this work, Mathilde said, “I re-listened to all of Stephen's albums at home, and I also listened to all sound sources other than the album. It took 2 months to decide which songs to record on the album. Also, Stephen was very appreciative of young people's creativity. So this time, while imagining Stephen, I decided to record an original song as well.”
“With this album, in addition to covering Stefan's repertoire, I wanted to show that I received the baton as Stefan's successor by recording original songs.”
Regarding the title of this album, Mathilde said, “The title of the album “Un Violon Pour Tout Bagage (I only have one violin)” is inspired by the title of Stephen's biography “Mon Violon Pour Tout Bagage (All I Have to Possess Is My Own Violin”) .” “The only thing I have is a violin, which means the violin is everything in my life. That's exactly my thing.”
In addition to putting all her sensibility into the two people, Stephen Grappelli, who never stops being respected, and also showed the will to connect Stephan's footprints to the future, in this album.
