Duo album by famous Finnish pianist/composer Timo Arakotilla and accordionist Fujino Yuka. In addition to the 12 songs collected from each original, the famous Finnish tango song “Hiljainen Kylatie” (Quiet Village Road) was recorded as a bonus track.
The album title “Cyrus” is a neologism created from the Japanese seasonal word “blue storm.” It has the meaning of a dream of a gentle blue wind (blue is a representative color also used on the Finnish flag) that comes and goes between Japan and Finland.
“Nanohana,” which is designed on the inside of the jacket, is Fujino's signature song. This song, which was written for my friend's mother's birthday, was well received in Finland, and is the last song on the album. Timo's “Arcticparadise” is a popular song that is also recorded on the live album “Tokyo Concert” by accordionist Maria Kalaniemi. Recorded in a new arrangement for this duo.
Note that all recorded songs have been newly arranged by Timo/Fujino.
There are 2 new songs written for this album. Timo is “Hiroko” and Fujino is “Valkoinen kukka” (white flower), both of which are dedicated to Kantele player Hiroko, who passed away in May this year.
This project began in January of this year, and after a long period of exchange between Japan and Finland, the recording was carried out in Finland in July.
Furthermore, this album was made possible by the call of Philip Page, who has been involved with Kimmo Pohjonen, JPP, Maria Kalaniemi, Varttina, and Accordion Tribe for many years as producer and manager. Phillip also participated in this album as a project coordinator.
Also, this album is the first Japanese to be released by Maria Kalaniemi's label Akero Records.
