This rug is made from Okinawan rush grass. Okinawan beegu is a type of rush that has grown thick and sturdy over many years, adapting to Okinawa's harsh environment. It can only be grown in Okinawa, where the area devoted to it is extremely small, making it an extremely valuable product that is virtually impossible to find in stores on the mainland. Compared to mainland rush, it is approximately two to three times thicker and twice as heavy, making it durable and long-lasting. This doubles the moisture absorption and release properties unique to rush grass, absorbing the muggy summer air and eliminating the sticky feeling of sweat when lying down. The smooth, textured feel is addictive. Over time, the surface gradually develops a beautiful amber color, developing a glossy finish that's almost like it's been waxed.
