Combining Japanese art with tarot, Ukiyoe Tarot is a beautifully illustrated deck that skillfully depicts traditional tarot symbolism and ukiyo-e art. Tarot expert Stuart Kaplan and Japanese artist Koji Furuta combined Japanese ukiyo-e prints with the traditional 78 tarot cards. The resulting imagery captures the delicate yet powerful ukiyo-e style, creating strikingly modern images. The Major Arcana depicts familiar archetypes, such as the magician as a kabuki actor and the pope as a monk. The Minor Arcana features ancient Japanese symbols, such as the traditional sword, ceremonial staff, lacquered cup, and Edo-period coins. The deck consists of 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana, for a total of 78 cards. The 8th is Justice and the 11th is Strength, in the Marseilles style. The card backs are indistinguishable between upright and reversed positions. The deck comes in a caramel box case.
