These pens are crafted from panels of white marine mother-of-pearl and vibrantly colored paua abalone shell. These panels are hand-cut directly from the center of the shell and have a Mohs hardness of 4.5 (as hard as steel). To highlight the natural color and beauty of this precious organic material, the pens are not clear-coated. The shell's lustrous, rounded, and smooth finish is the result of hand-polishing.
