The Kagero was the lead ship and lead ship of the 19 Kagero-class destroyers, and was completed at the Maizuru Naval Arsenal in November 1939, just as the outbreak of war was approaching.
The Kagero-class brought together the construction know-how that had evolved from the Special and Shiratsuyu-class destroyers. Displacing 2,000 tons, the Kagero-class was equipped with three 12.7 cm twin guns, two 61 cm quadruple torpedo tubes, and a 52,000 horsepower engine, making it a fleet-class destroyer capable of a top speed of 35 knots.
Due to its excellent follow-up capabilities, the Kagero was used to escort the aircraft carrier task force consisting of the Akagi and Kaga at the beginning of the Pacific War, and took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor, the air raid on Port Darwin, and operations in the Indian Ocean.
From the time of the US landing and counterattack in the Solomon Islands, she took part in various operations to retake Guadalcanal, and after Operation Ke (the Guadalcanal evacuation operation), she continued to be used for transport missions in the Solomon Islands, but in May 1943, she was struck by a mine and sunk in Blackett Strait while transporting ships to Kolombangara Island.
●This product recreates the ship's appearance from the time its preparations for naval operations were completed in 1941, at the start of the war.
●In addition to the decals/stickers included with the standard version, it also includes stickers and decals for the side and stern names of 14 types of Kagero-class sister ships.
●The display base comes with different parts than the standard version, featuring a wooden deck and striped pattern.
●Enables you to recreate the expressive design unique to the large 1/350 scale.
・The hull and bottom are separated into parts at the waterline. Both the full hull type and the offshore type can be recreated.
- Parts are divided and colored to match the main color scheme.
- The gray is a slightly lighter shade that mimics the color of the Maizuru Arsenal, and is made up of a total of six part colors, including linoleum and the color of the hull bottom.
- The hull is divided into left and right halves. They fit together with a press-fit boss.
- Compared to the final Yukikaze, special parts are used to recreate the appearance at completion, with the portholes open.
- Details that cannot be fully reproduced in 1/700 scale are reproduced, including the clamps for the outboard electrical wiring, the thickness of the steel plate, the portholes and eaves.
- The bottom of the hull is molded in one piece. The thickness and overlap of the steel plate are reproduced, resulting in a precise surface texture.
- The water supply and drainage ports at the bottom, the listening device, and the keel rivets are all reproduced with delicate sculpting.
- The main guns are made using a slide mold, resulting in a one-piece structure with molding around the entire turret.
- The gun barrels can be elevated and depressed individually even after assembly, and the slide mold gives the gun muzzles an open appearance.
- Even the bottom, which is hidden after assembly, has been reproduced with great attention to detail, including the shape of the reinforcing girders.
- The 61cm quadruple torpedo tubes, a characteristic of the Kagero-class, are precisely reproduced using three parts: the cover, torpedo tube, and torpedo.
- After assembly, they can be aimed left and right and rotated.
- The base of the bridge is made using a slide mold, allowing the side walls to be shaped and engraved as a single molded part.
- The Type 94 compass on top of the bridge can be rotated even after assembly, allowing it to be aligned with the main guns.
- Dedicated clear molded parts are provided for the bridge windows.
- The mast has a two-piece structure consisting of a front landing gear and two rear landing gears, recreating the simple shape of a ship without radar.
- The left and right funnels are glued together, and the funnel caps are mesh-like and open, resulting in a realistic design.
- The black paint on the funnel caps and funnel tops is reproduced in advance using colored parts.
- The steam exhaust pipe and cooking funnel are made into separate parts from the engine funnel, creating a three-dimensional design.
- The linoleum sections of the front and rear upper decks are made using brown-colored molded parts.
- The linoleum retainers are expressed with delicate carving.
- The steel deck in the center of the upper deck has an anti-slip (strip) pattern reproduced with intricate raised carving.
- The aft torpedo reloading device and the base of the searchlight tower are made into one integrated part using a slide mold, and are engraved on both the sides and top.
- The stern is equipped with depth charges and uses parts exclusive to the time of the outbreak of war.
- Pre-cut stickers are included to represent the coloring of the naval ensign and the inner surface of the cutter.
- Includes one decal sheet each for painting and one sticker sheet for assembly without painting, exclusive to this product.
