This book is a listening comprehension resource for honorific language (HOG) that analyzes the honorific language used in everyday situations, such as public transportation announcements and store explanations of service and payment methods.
The goal is to help students recognize the various honorifics used in each situation, understand what each honorific is used to convey, and respond appropriately to the other person's words.
The introduction begins with a basic introduction to the different honorifics, the speaker's intention when using honorifics (e.g., requests, recommendations, offers), and ways to express consideration. Then, students move on to listening practice for each situation.
The practice sessions carefully review the overall content of the conversation and the types and intentions of the honorifics used. This book will deepen your understanding of honorific language and how to express consideration in Japanese.
