Paulownia wood boxes are lightweight and have little shrinkage. They are resistant to corrosion and insects. They are flame-resistant and have excellent hygrostatic properties (maintaining a constant humidity level), making them ideal for storing your precious goshuincho (stamped seals).
While some inexpensive paulownia wood boxes feature thin lid and bottom panels made from non-paulownia wood or plywood, this box is made entirely from paulownia wood, with 9mm thick side panels and 6mm thick top and bottom panels. (The inner side panels of the main body are 4mm thick.)
The side panels are designed with a locking joint (dovetail joint) that combines grooved grooves for a luxurious feel. The box's double-sided inro-style design ensures durability, high airtightness, and resistance to outside air.
Caution:
If the box is dented due to a drop or impact, apply water to the dented area and allow it to dry naturally. Small dents will usually return to their original shape.
All natural wood boards are sensitive to changes in humidity, especially paulownia wood due to its softness. If exposed to dry air, the boards may warp. Warping is especially likely if the box is stored in a dry room with an air conditioner on during the winter.
Paulownia wood boxes have side panels attached to the lid and bottom, but because the material is soft, the lid (bottom) may warp.
When making our paulownia wood, we use thoroughly dried paulownia wood, and we inspect it for warping before shipping it from our store. However, if the wood is too dry, in rare cases the lid may already be warped by the time it is delivered to the customer.
Please understand that this is a characteristic of natural wood (paulownia wood).
This is a paulownia wood storage box from our store (Senshi Shuin) that can hold up to 20 goshuincho (stamped seal books).
Made using thicker paulownia wood than conventional products, this heavy-duty box features a locking mechanism similar to that used in high-quality paulownia chests, and the lid has a gold foil stamped "Goshuincho" seal.
Large-sized (12 x 18 cm) goshuincho (stamp book) can be stored with the cover on, but the number of books that can be stored will be reduced. Extra-large goshuincho (stamp book) cannot be stored with the cover on. Also, by removing the divider, B5-sized goshuincho can be stored horizontally.
The lid is embossed with the words "Goshuincho" in gold foil. (The letters may be faint due to the wood grain.)
Dimensions: Exterior: 196 x 303 x 207 mm / Interior: 170 x 277 (135 x 2) x 195 mm *Due to product specifications, the size may vary by 1-2 mm. Made from natural paulownia wood, the grain will vary from piece to piece. (The grain may differ from the product image.)
