The Japanese model is a special edition that follows the vintage design of the time while being remade for a modern look. The case back features an officially authorized reproduction of an engraving that is no longer in use.
"Churchill" is a masterpiece by LIP that has made its mark in the history of French watches.
This model, which appeared from the 1930s to the 1950s, captivated gentlemen throughout Europe with its rectangular case and Art Deco design. It continued to be produced after World War II, and was even used as an official gift by the French government in the 1950s, making it a "historic masterpiece."
Now, after nearly 90 years, the aesthetics of the T18, slumbering in the LIP archives, are being resurrected for the modern era.
The Japanese model reproduces the original features – a guilloched dial, a curved case that fits comfortably on the wrist, and a small seconds hand at 6 o'clock – but with a modern interpretation.
The size, crystal, and index finish convey the elegance of the 1930s.
Regarding the engraving and emblem on the case back: the bird is the Imperial Eagle of Napoleon's time, represented by two columns as a symbol guarding the entrance to the city of Besançon. After the Revolution, two clock hands were added as a symbol of watchmaking.
Lip had used this emblem on the case back for many years, but has now discontinued the engraving. However, for this special Japan edition, they have engraved it again with official permission.
