This tatami mat features a water-repellent finish on both sides of the rush fabric (however, it does not repel water above 40°C, such as hot water, tea, or coffee).
Simply lay it down to refresh your tatami room. Use it to refresh sun-damaged tatami or as a cover to protect new tatami mats from stains.
While typical rush tatami mats require a dry wipe before use, this product eliminates this need thanks to its mud-dyed, water-repellent coating. Simply unfold it and use it as is.
The water-repellent finish on both sides of the fabric prevents stains and dirt from adhering.
This economical reversible mat can be used on both sides. It uses domestically grown (Kyushu) rush grass measuring 115-120cm in length. Approximately 88cm of this length is used. The edges will have a slight whitish tinge. (This is not due to sun damage; it is the color of the base and tip of the rush grass.) The longer the rush grass, the more luxurious it is. The tip of the rush grass is reddish-brown, the base is white, and the center is blue (green). The more of the high-quality blue part in the middle is used, the stronger and more beautiful the finish will be. Furthermore, rush grass tans over time, and the more of the blue part in the middle is used, the more evenly the entire grass tans and the more flavor it has. We use domestically produced (Kyushu) rush grass.
Domestically produced rush grass is thick, with a thick outer skin and fine fibers, making it resilient and durable. Igusa grass has air-purifying properties, humidity-regulating properties, and stain resistance. The rush grass is treated with Aomori cypress (deodorizing effect).
Both sides can be used.
