In "Habitats," players take on the role of rangers. They travel in a jeep among tiles labeled with animals and their habitats (for example, "Leopards live in forests"),
acquiring tiles to place in their parks. They then place the acquired tiles in their parks.
The animals on the acquired tiles require specific habitats, and each animal's tile requires the "optimal terrain tiles" that must be adjacent to it.
For example, a rhinoceros must be connected to two grasslands and two water sources, while a lion must be connected to three grasslands and one forest.
Other creatures have other requirements, such as flowers, tourists, and watchtowers, so the placement relationships can become more complex.
The game is played over three rounds, and the player with the highest score, calculated by achieving each round's objectives and tile placement at the end of the game, wins.
The player who has built the most environmentally friendly park is the winner.
While the rules are simple, deciding which tiles to pick and how to place them can be a challenging tile-placement game.
