Deep Bordeaux brings instant warmth to a table, the kind of colour that makes glassware glow and an ordinary supper feel more deliberate. These paraffin wax taper candles are made for dining, evening baths, mantelpieces and winter gatherings, where a tall flame gives the room a quieter pace.
The mood on the table
The colour reads rich and wine-dark, pairing naturally with brass, dark wood, clear glass or simple ceramic holders.
The slim vertical shape adds height without taking over the table, leaving space for plates, flowers and conversation.
The flame is tall and clean, giving soft movement rather than harsh brightness.
Bordeaux works especially well for darker evenings, festive meals, Valentine’s settings and intimate dinners.
Use a single candle for a small ritual, or group several together for a fuller, more ceremonial glow.
Paraffin wax with an over-dipped colour finish
These candles are made from paraffin wax and over-dipped with colour, so the Bordeaux tone has a smooth, even surface. They are made to a church-candle standard, designed to burn cleanly and non-drip when used correctly, away from draughts and in a suitable holder.
Lighting and care
Stand each candle upright in a stable, heat-proof candle holder or on a heat-proof plate. Trim the wick to about 5 mm before lighting, keep the flame away from anything flammable, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
A small European table ritual
Taper candles belong to a long tradition of table light, from formal dining rooms to simple family meals where the act of lighting a candle marks a change in pace. Their height draws the eye upward, while the flame keeps the atmosphere low and close. In European homes and restaurants, coloured dinner candles are often used seasonally: deeper tones for winter, red shades for celebration, softer colours for spring. Bordeaux carries that same sense of occasion without feeling loud.
