Unchanging Words in a Changing World - A First Translation from Scratch in 31 Years"
The Interconfessional Translation (ICT) aims not only to produce a dignified and beautiful Japanese Bible suitable for reading in Christian church services and liturgies, but also to contribute to the development of the Japanese language and culture for years to come.
Thirty-one years have passed since the publication of the New Interconfessional Translation (NIT), adopted by 80% of churches and Christian schools in Japan. The Interconfessional Translation (ICT) is a new Japanese translation designed to set the standard for the next generation. The first edition was published in December 2018, after a translation period of approximately nine years. Following the NIT, this translation is another collaborative effort with the support and cooperation of Catholic and Protestant churches. It was translated by Japan's leading biblical scholars and Japanese language experts, incorporating the research findings of the United Bible Societies (UBS), the world's largest Bible translation network. It incorporates as much as possible the advances in biblical studies, translation studies, and biblical archaeology achieved in the quarter century since the NIT. The first edition in 2018 included references and notes, but this is a standard edition without them, with more text space per page.
It is a small A6 size, suitable for use as a textbook in Christian schools and for lending to new church members.
